Inspiration Poetry Contest closes!

Finally, we come to an end of this very very fun-filled, enthusiastic and most of all extremely inspiring contest.

Thanks to each one who wrote, rhymed, commented , appreciated and of course, inspired this contest. From now, the Lounge is officially open.

The results should be declared by 14 th Feb. Consider it a Valentine Day's gift from the Lounge. But before that, we ask you help in the judging contest. As the last time, we will have the Readers' Choice award, but unlike the last time, you can choose your top3.

Send us a mail at writers.in.lounge@gmail.com with your favorite 3 poems. It CANNOT be your own entry. When you do send that mail, write your entry number in the subject line and then "Readers Choice". In the body, write:

1. Top choice
2. Second choice
3. Third choice.

In the scoring system, every time, someone chooses your entry as top choice, you get 10 points. 2nd and 3rd choice get 9 points and 8 points respectively.

Not all posts below are entries. The list of entries are on the right. Please read through carefully before voting.

You can vote till 11th Feb, 09. Looking forward to the same enthusiasm.

Thank You.

The Writers' Lounge Admin.

* Edit- Those who haven't participated in the contest can vote too. Just mention that you didn't participate. That was just to prevent voting for your own entry. The scoring system does need some thinking about and will be done so asap. Thanks a lot, Tan for bringing it in our notice*

*Edit2- The scoring used now will be:

Top choice - 15 points
2nd Choice - 10 points
3rd choice - 05 points

This will give a better demarcation between the entries and the choice will be clear *

My inspirer!

I remember everything
The day when I lost my hand

Drove my bike too passionately

Met an accident and turned into strands

I was morose, felt miserable

And had nothing left in my life

All my dreams got shattered

Sadness and pessimism were rife

That day I made my mind

Coz I had to find a way-out

Went to that beautiful old valley

To give it all without any doubt

I looked at the sky above

Into the sun I saw straight

And took a deep breath

Prepared myself to the fate

At my back suddenly

Something caught my eye

It were you with no limb, no money, no family

Sitting on the wheel-chair you still carried a smile

You seemed happy and satisfied

Indifferent to all your miseries

And you carried that beautiful smile

How could it be, is still a mystery

Your smile did the entire job

Made me realize the art

Of taking the life as it is

Keeping it going through your heart

I went back from the valley

And turned into a survivor

Coz you my friend, yes you

Are my true inspirer

Querulous ! (شکوہ)

Querulous ! (شکوہ)

Moving my hands,
In my hairs,
Slowly and softly,
With my closed eyes,
I still wonder,
Chasing back time,
So little it had been,
Apart from you,
Those beautiful days,
Where sun shines and bloom the lanes,
Where "you" & "me" got "we",
& from where "we" got "you & "me"
Those moments i can never forget,
Things! yes they change,
But why they so quickly do so,
When i count on my fingers,
A fact makes me realize,
Years are passed,
But when i miss you,
It feels,
So little it had been,
Apart from you!

Though heartbroken, I will INSPIRE....

Sad and melancholic,
with nothing to grope
in the abyss I was falling..

I plunged my thoughts
yonder to let myself live, one more moment
in this ungrateful world....

Bright and playful,my youth..
with friends and family to cater my needs

At once,the grievances neither few
to be suppressed,
nor more to end life

With none to care,
rotting away my physical self.
With nothing to think,
except a few golden memories....
Of children,who never visit
Of wife,bereft of life...

Am I desolate,feeling this way?

Is'nt the flower withering away in the garden,
agonising?
Is'nt the old lion of aesop's fable,
heart broken?

Are'nt the moonless sky and the still winds,
as despondent as Iam?
Are all those abandoned,unloved,unwanted,inutile,
experiencing the same?
Am I so burdensome that my own son repudiates
me?

Alas! O God! is this all, I deserve?
Should I keep praying
to be blessed with a painless death?

Inspire,me Lord.......

that,
though the strife between the mind and the body
continues,
though the misery of incompatibility overpowers
abandonment,

I wish to rise and learn
that,
the moon waxes after it wanes,
New ambitions can be made each day,
rising hope against hope...

In teaching,the world....
Compassion over selfishness,
Wisdom over ignorance,
Ethics over immorality..

Yes, I wish to stand as a teacher,
and impart the essence of love and sharing..

Yes,though old,I will INSPIRE....

That Which Wouldn't Mend

I wished for a friend in the darkest times,

A friend I wished to be,

As I drowned in my own fateful rhymes,

My thoughts weighed in on me

I felt too lost; too numb, I knelt,

I felt just as lonely,

As lonely as she must have felt,

The day she had left me

She’s Gone! She’s Gone! I said and wept,

My tears just knew no end,

My cries were soft, yet so well kept,

In a heart that would not mend

Time  thus passed like a silent curse,

My cries, I stifled out,

But things soon went from bad to worse,

My cries had turned to shouts

Maybe that’s why my pain was heard

And someone did respond,

Just when I thought my end had neared,

My life seemed like reborn!

I opened out, like I never could,

She made me feel consoled,

She watched me, like a mother would,

She watched my life unfold

Her open arms I sought and found,

I rested there and cried,

She brought me back to my rebound

Her love, personified!

She found in me what I had lost

My vision she restored,

What I thought could never mend,

With love, it had been cured

“She’s now too far” some say to me,

But that is so untrue,

For when I close my eyes and see,

I find her, true and true.

Slow Poison!

SLOW POISON!

You are killing me,
slowly and conciously,
as each day i am living,
without you is hard,
but when its with you,
its evn worse,
when you are apart from me,
I am unable to feel,
anything but you,
and when you are with me,
it's again you i am surrounded with,
i dont like life this way,
you knw!
When you are present with me around me,
losing you or getting apart fears me!
And this just tears me,
reading me through these lines,
getting happy and you're enjoying,
Smilin beautifuly,
or you may be laughing,
but its me who's facing,
you are important,
evn wen i dont want so,
i know we'll be apart,
stop this fear of mine,
come and tell me its so fine,
oh! My loved one!
The slow poison of mine!
by me do comment!

A Tribute to Womanhood!!

I wrote this one somewhere down 2004 when Congress President, Mrs. Sonia Gandhi emerged victorous amidst a huge political turmoil..I have never been politically inclined towards Congress but her unanimous triumph in the Union elections left me spellbound...and i just couldn't resist penning down my proud sentiments for this admiring lady. Here it goes...

" She is an inspiration for women,

who elevated to power defeating all men,

she had a pitiable and painful history,

that turned her life into an unending mystery,

she fell in love and, married an indian,

and there off started a new life,

she lapped her husband's dying mother,

earnestly supported him who had by then:already lost his dearest brother,

she witnessed a new era of indian politics,

while her husband rose to power defeating all critics,

but yet again, she faced an assassination,

which put an end to all her fascinations,

she lost her loving husband and became a widow,

left behind with two growing kids coupled with past dreadful shadows,

she nurtured them well,

till they matured intelligently well,

and ultimately joined the indian politics on public demand,

with a dream of mustering Congress under her command...!!"

India Inspiring

In the land of a billion

And astounding diversity

There are problems a zillion

With much profound adversity

Nevertheless

With aspirations aplenty

Of dreams,passion

success and hard work

Incredibly revved

Like a raging fire

Are we citizens

Ready to strive

Earning and Learning

For making a living

Astute are we

By the ways

Of all near and far

Let whatever may come

We’re never cowed

down by fear.

Where do we get,

The inspiration from!

Not have to search

So far and so wide

It is in our,

very heart

Is it instilled?

Because of our

Heritage , tradition

parents and bringing up,

the values et all

Like the bright sun

Giving warmth

Spreading light

It is in our blood

We think by heart

And not by mind

Stand for our right

And so for our brethren

.......

Thanks again.

Writers' Lounge Admin.

PS: There was a poem not related to the contest, it has not been deleted, just rescheduled to be posted after 8PM tomorrow.

My first poem

A hobby i had
to read all good,
born from it,
a desire to write,
express,react and
pen memories...

He smiled
on the idea,
quite amused
by my sudden zeal;
"what can you
write any way?"

Hurt but not
dejected,
a poem i wrote,
about me and him,
For challenging me.
It inspired me to pen
a "thank you" ode to you

He smiled again,
now proudly. for me
and my write.
I blushed,
my spirits soaring,
glad for his liking.

PS : This is a true account of how i started writing poetry about two years back !!

A bug – a guru.

Here I sit, in this stranded cave
Having lost all –
My family, love, kingdom and people.
I have nowhere to go,
I await no one’s call –
In that bloody battlefield, I lost them all!

The battle so filthy,
It ruined me to dust –
My people betrayed, whom I trust
Still. Maybe it’s time
For me to bid goodbye –
After all that happened, I wonder why!

Where are you?
My loveliest –
The one to whom I sworn.
Traitor, yet my friend
Where have you gone?
Deceiving the land, where you were born!

Sitting here tonight,
I feel so low,
For, apart from the heavens, I’ve nowhere to go,
I flew from the arena
My people know
This shameful face of mine, I cannot show.

My sword, my friend
I plea to thee –
Cut off my head and set me free,
For, I have no choice
But to flee –
Tomorrow’s sunrise, I want not to see.

But stop. What is that bug on the wall?
Striving to climb up, yet so small,
Hurling a web and trying to mount
But each time it would surely fall.

No, wait! It is climbing now
Showing me the way exactly how
What a thought, that has crept in my mind!
“O Spider, my teacher, let me take a bow.”

Now I know! No need to fake it.
The world to you is the way you take it.
One thing that I have learnt for my life –
If you try, you will surely make it.
(250 Words)

If you think, you can..

If you think, you can
For there is a day after every night
If hopes are intact then
The chances of goal attainment are all bright

If you think, you can
You can break mountains into stones
It’s in your hands
Do not leave your hopes

If you think, you can
You can overcome your sorrow
And your tears can turn into smiles
You can regain your lost glories tomorrow

If you think, you can
You can carve a stone into a statue
A pain filled soul will work hard
Patience and dedication is a prized value.
But only if you think you can,

If you think you can
then you will,
For “I can’t” is meant for weak,
You are strong, so don’t give up the thrill!

My Butrfee !

My Butrfee!
I can feel her still,
She, so dead in my hands,
Thought i didn't mean too,
But she was killed by me,
As I took her breath,
Butrfee! I am so sorry,
Holding you in hands,
And feeling you,
Was a dream of mine,
But seeing you dead,
This reality holds my breathe,
Your wings were my inspiration,
Easpecially the design and combination,
They were like you Butrfee!
Beautiful and adorable,
I know its so bad of me,
The apology of mine,
After killing you,
But Butrfee!
PLease Beleive me!
Losing you was even worse for me!
As I still miss you!
Even after so many years!
You inspire me
Oh my butrfee!
I love you!

Dear readers i dedicate this poem to the butterfly (butrfee) killed by me her feel is still with me..

A Place So Dear To Me.

Every day, I go to this place,
It sets a smile upon my face,
It shows me words so nice,
Highest praise wouldn’t suffice.

It makes me write a lot more,
It is like a pearl in my heart shore,
Full of angels, it is heaven dear,
Far away friends, just seem so near.

A little sadness, laughter a lot,
Of friendships anew and never forgot,
A lot of fun, just being together here,
Making one smile, wiping their tear.

A second home, to many I know,
They share with us, their thoughts so,
It is a place, that is full of desire,
A little palace, which does indeed inspire.

A hub of talent now, many more to see,
It has been a place, very dear to me,
Now and always, close to my heart it shall be,
A place where there is no I, only WE.

My Guardian Angel!

My tears had almost dried and my heart become numb,
My heart still beats but I had become a statue,
I wanted to laugh, run, dance and be myself again,
But my pain was too much for me to allow,
He had given me love but taken a lot more,
But all that was left of me was a lifeless creature,
I wanted a miracle and she was that!

She touched me, consoled and raised me from my slumber,
I started smiling, loving and enjoying,
The pain still reigned but her love had lessen it,
She was around at all times I needed her,
She was around to listen, to heal and to love,
She was there to make me smile,
I wanted a miracle and she was that!

I started gaining life, I started gaining myself,
I started expressing, living, and I started being me,
I didn’t need anyone as long she was there,
She brought back my inner self back to me,
I started writing, dancing and living,
The pain had long vanished with the love undefined,
I wanted a miracle and she was that,
She was my Guardian Angel, my Best Friend- My Ashrita!

WORD COUNT-197

P.S. I love you a lot Ashrita....u r not just my guardian but my inspiration to start life anew...love you tons

Simply for you...

To the biggest source of my inspiration...
My teachers...

When for the first time I sat on my place....
Completely lost, shy...
It was you who came to me,
Welcomed me with an embrace...

When for the first time I hurt myself and couldn't find my parents around,
With tears rolling down my cheeks,
It was you who came to me,
Lovingly you tended and it was bound...

When for the first time I stood on the stage,
Facing the crowd and sensing the impending doom,
It was you who came to me,
Gave me the courage...

When for the first time I won a prize,
And came to you, feeling ecstatic...
You were there for me,
All prasie...

Today, when I head unknown destinations,
Without any hesitation,
I remember you...

Today, when I fall down and hurt myself,
Without feeling bruised,
I remember you...

Today, when I face the world,
Without any dread,
I remember you...

Every little award I acquire,
I remember you...
For I have a lot to thank you for...

P.S. It may seem a little cliched to be writing this for teachers, but I honestly feel indebted to them... Please do leave your comments...

My Angel Doll !

My Angel Doll !

For mummy she was a doll,
For daddy she was an angel,
For brother she was an inspiration,
But as time passed,
Things started changing,
Now she was a girl with 21 age,
Still she feels the angel in her,
Although no longer no one sees,

Her choice was different,
Instead of fishes she love seals,
With freakles on her face,
She was lost one day,
All they searched but she was missing,
Her mommy asked teachers,
About her genius daughter,
Her teacher replied she was an aimless person,

On way back home with eyes watering,
They all wre hoping for a miracle of her return,
Oh! yes she was back to her home,
With all she faced,
She was neither an angel nor was a doll,
She was girl with loads to call,
Words made her an angel and her a doll!

I dont know weather this poem reflects me or it dont. I being the owner, the poet of this poem dedicate this piece of mine to .a.( i.e ASBAH!). who made me wish to be boy ( she will be the only reason why i want to be a boy ;) so th i cud marry her ) *hugs* asbah!

Will You Not Come Back To Me?

Darkness cleaves at my blinding eyes,
my twisted soul no longer cries,
the rant of qualm still mocks at me,
I stumble in pieces of obscurity.

This sense of loss still lingers here,
I’m tortured by the gloom of fear,
no longer will I give in to pain,
the imp of hatred has been slain.

I have emerged from rancor and rue,
a rebirth of love to take me through,
Will you not come back to me,
or are we just not meant to be?

Am I still the reason same?
Am I still the one to blame?
If my ardor could lead to sorrow,
will I be the same tomorrow?

Through bedlam and through anguish too,
I would mend the acrimony in me and you,
This lurid dream of lonesomeness,
of bitterness and wretchedness.

I have emerged from rancor and rue,
a rebirth of love to take me through,
Will you not come back to me,
or are we just not meant to be?

Inspiration

Pin drop silence, I stand amidst the center of the stage,
Miss perfect smile, covering rivers of nervousness within,
I trust my buoyancy, yet I shiver to the soul
But the podium supports me, standing ahead
With the paper papyrus and the ink filled feather.

Excited, exhilarated, delighted and elated
With the Compères words, I feel the flutter.

"What inspires you to win this crown?" He takes a pause
"You have two minutes, your time begins now"
I think of things that inspire every other,
The first thing I think that inspires, is mother,
I try to think out of the box, when I look above
And ahead of me lies deep, deep darkness,
So silent it feels with murmurs and whispers
I hear the murmurs loud in my ears,
"Go for it, India" I heard a cheer.

I then looked down, kept running my feather
And it rolled my mind on that papyrus paper.
I surpassed the infinite numbness,
The songs, the announcements rendered with my deafened ears,

The next thing I heard loud, was the same crowd cheer,
When the distance between the Universe and India seemed near.
I looked everywhere for inspiration, and it was right here!
