Monsoon Madness @ Lounge

"WE GIVE YOU CHARACTERS, YOU GIVE US A STORY"

Its Contest time Folks. We bring to you Monsoon Madness @ Lounge. And it starts as soon as the clock strikes midnight. A one month long roller coaster of emotions and imaginations will clash when you people bring the characters alive with the power of words.

MonMad starts from 15th July to 15th Aug

Also, this contest is open for all our beloved followers and others following us via Networked Blogs and anyone who wishes to join (for details, keep reading)

Rules ---->
1] As we said, we give you the characters, you give us a story. So we are giving you 10 characters (5 males, 5 females), along with their names. You can only CHOOSE A MAXIMUM OF 7 among them. i.e., out of the 10 characters available to you, you can choose 7 or less in your post, depending on your mood. NOTE - must not exceed 7 characters

2] Poetry is NOT allowed. Anything other than poetry (and its types) are allowed.

3] Word Limit is of 800. You can obviously finish before that, but make sure it does not cross 800 or your post will not be considered.

4] You can post as many stories as you want. BUT remember that only ONE can be submitted. i.e You write 1-99 posts, but you have to mail us the name and link of only one post that is to be reviewed. If anyone submits just one post, it will automatically be considered for review. You DO NOT have to mail us then.
My advice - write as many as you can. Before the contest ends, send us an email with your best work.

5] Any theme permitted. Horror, fantasy, romance, crime, thriller. People, its your mind, its your imagination. Use it.

6] Label every entry with your name, "MonsoonMadness-Lounge" and "WL-Contest". No other labels are to be added

7] Any post not related to the contest is barred from being posted till the contest ends. That means, TWL will be closed to every other post once the clock strikes midnight.

8] Badges will be given for the first three positions. There will be a separate ranking for "the followers and NetworkedBlog friends". A reader's choice rank is also to be won.

9] One of you will win a surprise prize from the Admin. And it involves Home Delivery. So make me proud!!

10] A picture is a must. Remember only ONE pic.

11] Read the rules again if you still do not get it!! Duh!!!

CHARACTER LIST
Male - Richard, Tarun, Armaan, Muthu Kumar, Samuel
Female - Anubhuti, Auraya, Emily, Nausheen, Neha

NOTE TO FOLLOWERS, NETWORKEDBLOG FRIENDS and ANYONE who wishes to participate.

The rules 1-11 apply to you as well. Rule number 9 also applies to you. But there is no separate winner. Only one, either from the authors of TWL or the non-authors of TWL will win it.
Also follow the following rules (NOT FOR TWL AUTHORS)
> All your entries are to be mailed to writers.in.lounge@gmail.com and you have to specifically mention which entry you want to be reviewed if you are sending more than one post.
> If you are in Facebook, search for 'The Writers Lounge', like it. Also write your post in your notes in Facebook and tag it with 'The Writers lounge'

FINAL ENTRIES should be mailed to writers.in.lounge@gmail.com on or before 10th Aug.

That's it folks. Let the imaginations soar. And lets make it huge.

P.S| Use the comments section for views and your thoughts and querries
P.P.S| If you have a querry, read the post again. If you still have it, ask the question.

ADMIN POLL RESULTS

Dear Family,

The results of the Admin Selection Poll are out.

We feel extremely proud to welcome Freelancer and Princess Nuchu in our Admin Team. We thank everyone who voted for their favorite in the Admin elections.

As per the suggestions by our fellow members, we have tried a new template. However, you all would appreciate that it would be a little difficult for us to keep changing the template till we get to hear a collective 'yes' from all our members. We all can welcome this change in a positive way and try to cope up with it.

The snow-filled lounge contest is officially over and the results will be out by day after tomorrow. We apologise for the delay in announcing the same.

Regards,

The Writers Lounge Admin Team

ADMIN PANEL SELECTION

Hello dear family,

We at 'The Writers Lounge' are in the process of re-forming the admin panel for our Lounge.

Due to many reasons, many admins are unable to contribute towards the Lounge. Therefore, a new panel will be selected who would constantly upgrade and take care of the Lounge.

The selection will be purely based on the votes of the members. There are a few criterion that can be kept in mind while voting like, his/her presence in the lounge; how active he/she is and how capable he/she would be in contributing towards the Lounge .However, we are retaining Leo and Nyx from the present admin panel. Through the voting process, two candidates would be selected and the New Admin Team would be formally announced.

The nominations are -

1. FREELANCER
2. PRINCESS NUCHU
3. SOWMIYA aka MEOW

Your vote would only be confirmed through mail. Your mail should reach at - writers.in.lounge@gmail.com

The voting ends on - Feb 8, 2010, i.e. Monday at 10 AM IST.

Regards,

The Writers Lounge Admin Team

TWL - Reformation!

A big hello to TWL Family!

As an Admin of this prestigious blog, and a member since December '08,  it really gives me a lot of pain to see The Writers Lounge in a state that it is today. This was the family we proudly called our second home. We encouraged our fellow writers to write even better, we celebrated special days, we laughed together and we cried together. But what I personally feel is that nothing is the same anymore.

A lot of people are new to this gang. Some of them were here since Day One and some of them joined us with time. This prestigious blog was started off by Asbah, Sandeep and Ste on 16.07.2008. From that very day, this journey began and it witnessed many people coming together and moving ahead in this journey.

It is quite heart-breaking to see certain disturbing activities like Politics, Monopoly etc. going on in the Lounge. A few weeks back, our founder Sandeep was ousted from the Lounge. No matter what personal grudges we hold against someone, it is certainly a very disturbing act when we delete him/her from the Lounge. It is my sincere request to each one of you to voice your opinion on this. Would you be very happy with anyone who deletes you from the Lounge on account of any personal grudge?

Sandeep, someone whom we fondly address as the 'Co-Founder' of the Lounge was DELETED from this place. He had nurtured this baby (The Writers Lounge) as much as any other founder did. Did any one raise a question - WHY? Folks, we are here as a family and not as slaves to someone. We do not have to necessarily agree with someone just because he is a Co-Founder of this Lounge. Believe me, this Lounge was created with a vision...it was visualized as an open platform where anyone can demand anything...can post anything....everyone is the owner here.

Secondly, Leo deleted himself from the Lounge since the changing face of the Lounge was disturbing him much. A lot of Admins are not active here, the reason for which has already been expressed.

I, as an Admin of this elite group blog, take the responsibility in my hands to bring about a serious change in this Lounge. I am thinking about the possibility of re-forming the Admin panel, incorporating new changes and your suggestions are welcome in this regard.

I would request each one of you to seriously consider the measures that we all can take to bring about a change in the Lounge and by the change I mean a POSITIVE one.

Thanks and  big group hug to all,

NYX!

Moonlight Picture Contest Official Announcement!

Another successful contest closes today at Writer’s Lounge. The Moonlight Picture contest was well received with 21 entries overall, 10 in prose and 11 in poetry. Today, we give you the much awaited results of this contest.

Before going on, participation in itself is very important. Without participation, there is no challenge at all. Thank you for making the contest a success!

Starting with the Reader’s Choice Award…

Many of you voted and the result of this award was very tight. In one category, there was a winner by just a single vote and the other category saw a tie for the win. We are pleased to announce Sandeep with 3 votes as the winner for prose while the accolades for poetry are shared by Shruti and Vinay with 2 votes each. They get these badges:

Before going on to the result, let me say something about the judges. Yes we had two of them because we got two entries in Hindi. As much joy as sadness, because the judge for Hindi chooses to stay behind curtains and not come out. We respect her decision. The judge for English was Amias, a prolific writer in both prose and poetry. She has written two books, Mind Locks and Liquid Plastic, and is the owner of the meme blog Acrostic Only as well. We thank both these judges for their time, and for helping us to decide the winners among so many wonderful works.

Let’s start with prose. We got ten impressive entries from the prose category and unfortunately we can have only one winner. We’ll get to who won it in a while. As in competition results, we start with the second runner up. The third place in prose goes to……….

Tan for “The Last Flood”

Judge’s Comment: This is a good story, but the sentence structure needs some work. The author allowed the photo to inspire, so the story does stand on its own. I loved the ending. The little girl was very protective of her grandmother. She didn’t lie to her, but she didn’t tell the truth either. Her answer to her grandmother can be categorized as a paradox. This story has lots of potentials. The story was true to the title.

Marks Awarded: 80/100

The first runner up… The second place in prose goes to………

Aarthi for “Glory In The Making”

Judge’s Comment: I like this story, and yes, it could use a little work too. But overall it is good. I like the title too. The story held its own without me looking at the photo, and the hope of little “Kirti” is in keeping with all children that have been abused by someone they trusted. I especially love the magical meeting of the little girl with the old woman, as I have had experiences like this before and it made sense to me. This was a very good read.

Marks Awarded: 95/100

The winner… The first place in prose goes to………

Any guesses???!!!

Yeah, you’re right!

Claiming his second award after Reader’s Choice, Sandeep wins!! “Kinginni – The Anklet”

Judge’s Comment: This was wonderful read. Need very little tweaking. Not only did I enjoy the story, it flowed, stayed true to the title, and stood along without the photo. Like I said, it needs a little work, but not much. Bravo to the author!

Marks Awarded: 100/100

Next, we go for the award for Hindi. We had 2 entries in Hindi, and the winner is Riya! “Kaun Hai Jo Mere Sapnon Mein Aata Hai”

She was awarded 75 marks by our judge.

Moving on, the final category of judging… writing poetry in English is no easy task. Still we had 9 poems entered in our contest. The judge went through every detail of the poems and decided the top three. The second runner up… The third place in poetry goes to

Shraddha for “Memories of a Romance”

Judge’s Comment: I get anger when a poem has so much damn potential and the poet doesn’t take the time to revisit it. Unnecessary words distracts from the poem. No, in the beginning it did not stand on it’s on, but the second stanza was ok. I wish this poet had used another word to replace “shimmering”, because the moon does not flicker. It does not twinkle, a star does that. The moon glows, it beams, but it does not shimmer.

Marks awarded: 65/100

The first runner up… The second place goes to

Freelancer for “When You Are Gone”

Judge’s Comment: I like this poem; it stands on its own without the photo, and it flows well. I like how the author formatted it, also the opening stanza caught my attention, especially with the rhyming. However, in the last stanza, on the first line, the word should have been “lights”, as the author is speaking in present tense.

Marks awarded: 95/100

And… The winner of English Poetry…

Princess Sonshu for “Take Me To You”

Judge’s Comment: This poem flows well and it stands on its own without the photo. I can feel the emotion here – that aching to be with the one you love --- the loneliness; hope.

Marks Awarded: 100/100

Thanks a lot family. It was only because of your overwhelming response and participation that this contest has become a big hit.Although it may not have reached the level of RDL and Inspiration contest, but this is a hit in its own way.Winner and Runner ups will get ebooks and they are required to write their email id in the comment section so that we can mail you the books.
Prose:
1.Winner gets Mario Puzio novels consisting of the "GodFather series","The Fourth K","Last Arena "etc.

Admin Announcement - Moonlight Contest

Dear Members,

As you all are aware that there is a contest going on at the lounge - The Moonlight Picture Contest!

With numerous posts coming each day, it is quite possible that the other Admin Announcement posts may have gone unnoticed. The lounge is currently open only for the posts that are for the contest. Since we have a lot of new members, we would like to clarify that all of them (including the old members) should refrain from posting any other stuff apart from the stories/poems for this contest. The lounge will be open for every other post from September 12th, 2009.

This is just to ensure that the contributions for this contest don't get lost and people who contribute get maximum support as well as dedicated readership. If anyone does want to notify other lounge members of a new post on their blog, please feel free to use the Shoutbox. We regret the inconvenience caused. We guess it should be a great experience reading different takes on the given picture. We are just facilitating the same and ensuring that your stories get read. A humble request to all talented writers here on writers lounge to try their hand and churn up a story/poem for contest. Writers Lounge Rocks! And you all make it rock! Cheers!

Meanwhile we noticed a few posts which were not for the Moonlight Picture Contest. We have safely moved those posts as drafts. The respective authors are requested to kindly reschedule their posts for Sep 12. Also note that 're-posting' is only allowed on weekends!

P.S.: We will be posting the details of the Readers Choice Awards very soon.

 Till then,

Official Announcement - Moonlight Picture Contest

After getting an amazing response to the Moonlight Picture Contest...which saw close to 25 entries posted on the lounge so far, we are extending the date of the contest for a few more days…the contest now officially ends on the 11th of September, i.e. Friday! We witnessed quite a lot of entries for the Contest… all of them were fantastic! In all till now, we have received 13 entries for the Prose Category and around 15 entries for the Poetry Category.
Thanks a lot for the overwhelming response.

Further, we would like to declare open the "Readers Choice Award". The story/poem which gets the maximum votes from readers would receive the "Readers Choice Award" badge. Loungers are required to mail us the name of the story/poem which they rate as the best along with the author’s name if possible.

One member has to vote for one prose and one poem. Please note that the Readers’ Choice for Prose and Readers’ Choice for Poetry are separate awards.

We are waiting for more entries from all you people. Let’s make this Contest a hit!! :)
We also make a humble request to readers to comment on stories and poems to encourage the participants of the contest!
Love,
The Admin Team

Red July contest

Hear! Hear! Hear!
As per the last post that the admin had posted, we have decided to have a mini contest to jumpstart our dearest Lounge.
The theme is simple yet complex, the rules extremely simple. Please, keep in mind that participation is what we need the most.

The theme is RED.
Simple?

Only rules to be kept in mind are:
1. Keep the post limited to 500 words.
2. Keep it around the theme of RED. Interpret it anyway you like. We wont even give you idea. Let your imagination get wild.
3. You want to rhyme, acrostics, stories? Anything and everything is welcome. We will have different categories for prose and poems.
4. You need not limit yourself to just one post. Keep writing. Keep reading. Keep lounging.
5. Contest is on from 1st July to 7th July. Yes, we are keeping it short.

We write. We read. We lounge.

Time To Get Back To Business...

Hello to all the talented group of people who form this brilliant blog called The Writer's Lounge.

As the admin of this elite group, and a member since late November last year, it pains me a lot to see the lounge going from one of the best there was, to becoming as inactive as a group blog could possibly get. Last week alone, I could see two days when there were no posts for more than 24 hours. I've seen days when there were 40 posts. So it is indeed sad to see this sort of decline. There have been changes in the look and the rules since then, I agree, but change is always a part of any successfuly running family. Yes, I believe thats what this blog is, a family. No matter what anyone says. So even with these changes, I think one can continue the old style and posting. Steps will be taken to get the old WL back and it will be done slowly but surely. The old look perhaps, with some changes in rules, but the re-posting rule will stick.

As members of this family, I guess the best way to contribute to the return of the old Lounge would be to write more, as much as you can, but try and limit yourself to one post out of four successive posts, so as to give even the other members a chance to showcase their talent. More contests are on the cards as well, if we can find the right judges and time to do this. As the lounge heads towards its one year anniversary, the time is ripe for a phoenican rise from the ashes. Let's not write for getting more comments, for it is not always possible for many members to read and review each and every post. But a quick return is what is required.

We Read, We Write, We Lounge.
Let us join together again and rejuvinate this family.

Admin Team,
The Writer's Lounge.
