Writers Lounge Website! Kudos Aditya!

For once, I am short of words. Our baby finally has a website and it's simply outstanding!! Great work Aditya. This is one of the many things we had visualized when the 3 of us had laid the foundation stone of TWL and a million thanks for helping us realize it. And a website on the 3rd birthday of our lounge makes it the best return gift we can ever give to a place where we have laughed and cried together, as a big family. The lounge is slowly getting back to its old self and let's make 'Monsoon Madness' a big hit! :-)

Everything's fine at my end. Working on a short film, 'The Moment', these days in my free time. It is a blog story that I posted originally on TWL that I am converting into a short film. It's what I am giving back in return to the lounge on its 3rd birthday! Here are teasers that I made for the film. Let me know your views

Ste, Sandeep and the highway rules!

Ste: hi Sandeep...What's up brother? I am driving my new car, Tata Nano!

Sandeep: Be careful brother. You should not talk over the phone while driving. Don't you know the rules?

Ste: Don't preach ok! This is the only rule that I am not following. Rest everything am following religiously!

Sandeep: Like what?

Ste: For example, I am keeping my Nano in the left lane while driving. That's because the board read, 'Heavy vehicles towards the left'

Sandeep: Why on earth would you do that? Nano is not a heavy vehicle idiot. Trucks, buses etc are!

Ste: You idiot! I am sitting inside the Nano you dumbhead. That means the car is heavier by a quintal more. That makes it a Heavy vehicle. Hence left lane.

Sandeep: *faints*

Rains - 6 word story

Drenching my soul, these rains!

Rains - '6 word story' chain

Wiping my tears away, these rains!

6 Word Stories

Taking the cue from Leo, let's revisit old times by cooking up 6 word stories on 'Rains'. Last time we had done it on 'Death' and as Leo put's it...it was the trending topic on TWL :-)

Let it rain! :-)

TWL - Let there be light!

Nice to be back :-)

This place still holds the charm and one just needs to scratch the surface to see all the fun that we had when the lounge was at it's best. StepMan, Malan, 2 point someone, Microhumours, 55 fictions, Ste jokes by Arjun & me, Asbah's encouragement and her scribbles, Golu-Bhondu series, Ste's high voltage philosophy, Kajal's mesmerizing poems, Tan's magic, Leo's ownership, Freelancers never say die spirit, Chirag's enthusiasm, Nabila's comments, Aarthi's fun filled posts, Hashan's humour, John's rants, Nan's fiction, Rose's childlike exuberance, the Venky sisters casting their spell, Priyanka's soulful posts, Shruti's musings, Bhargav n Raghav's quizzes, contests etc. etc. Seems just like yesterday when I would be refreshing the page every hour and hitting the compose button with a sole intention of pulling Ste's leg and then wait for his retaliation. That obviously, was not the only reason for me to refresh this blog every hour. There would be posts waiting for contributors. Poems and story chains waiting to be picked up. It would be pure fun. One in which you could immerse yourself and come out refreshed, besides all the learning. Come the theme-based contests and I would have a blast reading all the takes on that particular subject. Getting judged by stalwarts and their comments on the stories would be the icing on the cake. TWL was such an awesome place to be. A writers dream and a readers paradise. The incubation ground for budding writers and a great place to make some awesome friends. That was TWL. One big family!

Somewhere...Somehow....TWL started taking a backseat. Life took it's own turn for lot of us. TWL ceased to be the place that it was meant to be. New members looked at this blog like a place where they could re-post the old content from their blog and add on to the comments that they had already got on their blog. And while they were doing this, there was no one to tell them what TWL was originally meant for. That it was a place where we connected over fresh posts and challenges thrown at each other, a place where we would await someone to start off a series and we would pick it up like a chain, a place where we commented and made friends, a place where we would share everything with the members who are like a family, a place where we would laugh and cry together and be there for each other in the darkest hours, a place where we would not push our individual blogs but let the readers come down on their own if they wish to, a place where it was not 'me' and 'you' but a 'WE', a place where we would put TWL above everything else!

Let's bring back the magic. Let's make TWL what it used to be!

P.S: Ste, am not going to feature in any episode of Roadies 8! ha ha ha...I just did a shoot with Raghu/Rajeev for a digital campaign we were launching. Check it out at www.mobileroadiehunt.com (log in with your FB and find out the truth about your friends :P :P)

P.P.S: Ste, zyaada panga lega toh Raghu aur Rajeev se maar padegi tereko :P :P :P ;)

Loads of love,

Sandeep Balan

Pain

Was it not yesterday we went out for dinner together? Then why is it that today I don't see you around?
Was it not yesterday that we bashed each other in the game? Then why is it that today there is no one to pick up the other controller?
Was it not yesterday that we had planned to zip around Mumbai exploring new places in your car? Then why is it that today you car lies in the parking without it's owner?
Was it not yesterday that we pulled your leg about all the gals whom you hit on? Then why is it that today I can't make myself heard?
Was it not yesterday that I clicked your snaps and promised to share it this time for sure? Then why is it that today I can't find you to collect them?
Was it not yesterday that we had planned to catch up on all the movies this weekend? Then why is it that today I dread at the thought of going to the theatre?
Was it not yesterday that we had planned to have a ball at the wedding of our common friend? Then why is it that today I cringe at the thought of celebrations without you?
Was it not yesterday that we were spreading news about the insane dowry prospective bride's fathers were luring you with? Then why is it that today I have no one to take offense of it?
Was it not yesterday you were right here, with all of us? Then why is it that today you are with the angels and one among them?
The memories of all the yesterday's with you. Memories of you are all that I have today! Will miss you today, tomorrow and forever!

Hellos!!

Hey Family,

Have not been around for a long time. I see a lot of new members who have joined us and it's good to know that our lil baby TWL is doing extremely well. Well, a big hug to all new members from my side. I am one of the founding members of this lounge, along with Asbah Alaena & Stephen. We wanted this space to be a melting pot of cultures and a treasure trove of creative musings, and with your help have achieved much more than that. Though Asbah & Ste are not around as much as they used to be here, I welcome you all on their behalf as well. It will be great if all of you could introduce yourself in the comments section here. I would love to know more about you all. Keep up the good work you all are doing on TWL. Cheers! :-)

Is anyone from the old gang @TWL still here? *Shouts out to them*

Love,
Sandeep Balan

Death (Contd.)

Kinginni - The Anklet

When we die, we become stars. Forever shining and up there for people we love most”, told Ammalu to her 5 year old girl.

But Amma, you won’t even be able to see or hear me from far up there”, Kinginni frowned.

Molu, you were named Kinginni which in our native tongue means the anklet. The sound of these anklets will inform me. There is always an invisible umbilical cord that connects a mother with her daughter, no matter how far she is”, Ammalu tried reassuring her daughter, wiping away tears which she had so valiantly fought for the past few months.

This conversation was still fresh in Kinginni’s mind though it had taken place two years back. Ammalu had passed away that very year, leaving Kinginni with her maternal grandmother and fisherman brother Velan. For the last two years, like a ritual Kinginni would head to the rocky beach towards the other end of her adopted home on every birthday of hers and converse with the brightest star closest to the moon. The sound made by her anklets would echo all around announcing her arrival. She would open her heart out to this twinkling star and share every single thing that had happened in the last one year. And the star would shine brightly while Kinginni smiled, fade out when she cried, twinkle at her complaints and bathe Kinginni in the cool moonlight when she would yearn for her mothers touch.

Today was her birthday. But things had gone terribly wrong. Kinginni had lost her anklets two days back while playing near the beach. She had spent the last two days crying. The new white frock her uncle gifted her this morning had failed to cheer her up. It had been raining heavily for the past few days and today was no different. As soon as it stopped raining towards the night, Kinginni made a dash to her spot. There was an eerie silence all around and the place sounded unfamiliar today without the echoes of her anklet. With a heavy heart, she glanced towards the sky. She let out a gasp on seeing the sky without a single star. Tears swelled up in her eyes and she rushed back unable to handle the shock.

Kinginni ran along the beach with the stream of tears gushing down her cheeks. She felt something prick her legs which made her stop. She had almost dismissed it as a thorn. But the shine of that object made her dig the surface of the sand only to reveal her anklets. Kinginni could not believe it. She thanked the sea for this gift on her birthday and rushed back to the spot, the anklet adorning her leg. The place echoed in rhythm to her pace as she sprinted to the corner. With a smile on her lips, she looked towards the sky in anticipation. And like God’s play, a strong wind blew the black clouds above revealing a bright twinkling star besides the moon.

Word count: 500

P.S.: Sorry for the late entry friends. The Onam celebrations back home in Kerala had kept me hooked. How could i not participate in a contest held by the beloved lounge? :-) The founders are always counted in by default...aren't they? Hope you all like the attempt. Keep rocking :P

Sandeep: Doctor, Are you sure Ste is fine?
Doctor: 200% sure! Still if you are insisting, I will check once more.
Sandeep: Please doc.
Doctor: Look Ste. What is this?
Ste: A doll
Doctor: Yes!! Good, my boy! And this?
Ste: A camera
Doctor: Brilliant! Now, what about this?
Ste: *Blushes* The thing to be used for family planning
Doctor: Very good, my "know it all" boy! And who am I?
Ste: Ramu the monkey! My best friend. I love you!
Doctor: Uh...oh...I was wrong. We have a problem here.

LOL returns!

Sandeep: Look at this Ste. What is this?
Ste: A banana
Sandeep: Good. Now tell me what is this?
Ste: Mangoooo
Sandeep: Excellent...Very good. And this?
Ste: Brinjal
Sandeep: Bravo! You seem to be fine. Then why do you keep on shouting "Ghost! Ghost" the moment you see your reflection in the mirror?

The end result of this exercise is dazzling, hence the name. A distant cousin of the loop style of poetry, here it is called loop because the poetry is named after the effect this exercise generates and is viral in nature, hence a repetitive circle. THEME POST FOR OUR BABY's BIRTHDAY!!

Back back back...this time with a bang. And with an intention to recreate the fun and magic that this place WL is known for :-)

FIRST ANNOUNCEMENT: "Birthday" Theme

I take great pleasure in announcing the theme to be followed for the next 2 days, starting today. The theme that you have to write on is "Birthday". It can be a story, poem, humourous takes, greetings, photos, vidoes, wishes, dedications or any damn thing in the world that comes to your mind when you hear the word "Birthday". Go ahead and start posting. Start writing....enough of lounging. Let this space be flooded with the word "Birthday" till the sun rises on 18th and we usher WL into its 2nd year. All of us together. United we were and united we will remain...come what may!! :-)

SECOND ANNOUNCEMENT: Raise a toast to WL :-)

An idea which Vitruvian boy proposed and i loved it. Announcing the same with some modifications :-). Lets all celebrate WL's birthday on 17th from whichever city/country/continent we are in, still be together connected on the WL. Let's all open a bottle of Coke (Coca cola) :-) on 17th and picture yourself raising a toast. Post that picture here. If you can videotape it and post it here, nothing like it. The subject line should be "Raisng a toast to WL from (City/State/Country)" followed by your wishes along with the picture/video. Lets spill some Coke here at WL on 17th.

This is the common thing that we all will do. However, if someone is planning to celebrate WL's birthday at their place and want to post images/videos of that here, they are more than welcome. Let's join together and pat our baby for turning ONE!!! Its party timeeeeeee!!!! Cheers!!

*Disclaimer: We have no tie-up's with Coca-Cola :-) :-). It happens to be Vitruvian boy's favorite drink (I presume) :-)

Love,
Sandeep

I'm Back...But not with a bang!! :-)

Family,

Yes! I continue to address this group as my family, as I have always done and will always do. Coz when I conceived this group and thought of it as an extension of my family, I went ahead and started addressing this group as that. And, like everything at WL, it was accepted with both arms open.

I have always believed in the maturity of this group and respected the transparency that this space should have. I have always used my name while posting admin notifications, and never ever have hidden my huge body ;-) behind this veil of "WL admin". We, the founders, started this space to provide a platform to connect, share and write. It gives me immense pleasure to see the big talented gang called loungers who have joined us over the last 12 months.

Though I have not been able to blog a lot of late, I have been a regular reader and follower. And I thought it was time I stepped in for good.

The moment I noticed the mail from "WL admin" here in the open stating openly that "Leo has been removed from WL", which was very unlike notifications, I was worried. I called up Ste and asked him to check with Leo, Aarthi & Rashi if they had posted it which I was sure they had not. Insiya has been inactive for a couple of weeks, taking her out of the picture. If neither of us posted it here, then who? Ste tracked the IP down to Chennai, and none of our admins are from that place. If the WL admin id was hacked, which I doubt it was, then we have taken measures to ensure that we beef up the security. The password has been changed, and to see to it that things don't go out of hand only me, Ste, Aarthi & Rash will be having it. I also request them to post their names while making announcements.

I appreciate Ilashree in sharing her concerns openly, and I am with her when she demands explanations. Something which came to my mind as well when I read the post notifying Leo's removal from the lounge. I am travelling currently, with limited access to net, and have not been able to contact Leo. I requested Ste to do that, and I understand that Leo wants a break. I will try my best to asking him to get back to weaving his magic again on the lounge.

The basic ingredient that this lounge and the members share is "trust". We are all mature and should be able to see if something strange is happening, there is some external hand involved. We never encourage silence here and that is the reason the WL email id has been put right on top for members to share their concerns. And after all this, things like infringing rights and accusations of deleting stuff unsettle me. Abhri, we connect with other writers on a personal note here. We never wanted Prats to leave and also welcomed her back asking her not to get affected by the mails. The day she messaged me asking if she could come back to the lounge, I simply replied saying that she does not need to ask and its her home. She came back, but was again hounded by the mails. We never posted anything on the lounge to show solidarity and give Prats the message that the lounge is not affected and is her same old home. Different people have different ways of dealing with situations and the mails saw a lot of angry replies from members here. While some remained silent ignoring the whole stuff. And its not that Prats only left WL. She deleted all her blogs as well.

Abhri, we as a group have no intentions of infringing on basic rights to freedom of anyone. The Leo post was deleted because neither of us had posted it, and we didn't want Leo to feel that we want him out. As far as a member going out and we being silent is concerned, it is we who sms/call them up and ask them to come back. I understand it is something which you were not aware of and hence commented, but I would request some "trust" from your side that we will see to it that lounge remains the way we conceived it and shapes up the way we dreamt of it. Something which we so successfully achieved and which we wont let some buggers/hackers to play around with. Something which is home for all of us here, and something which we will stay with in all hardships. Something which no one can shake and point fingers at. Something which we so proudly call a "family"

We were United, we will stay United. If there is someone out there who feels they have it in them to reduce the lounge to a battlefield, then my message to them is : Get a life! Leave my family alone.....Get lost!!

Lets bring back the zeal to usher WL into a new year. Lets celebrate the birthday of our baby in style. Lets show the world that WL is the most rocking place out there. Lets show everyone out there that WE ROCK!!

Love,
Sandeep
