Guitar hero

It would be a complete understatement to say that it rained that day. It sure did! All day and all night and then, even the next day. For safety reasons the electricity had been cut off. There was absolutely nothing to do. All of us were isolated in our own homes. I didn’t know what to do. And it just kept raining. I cursed the rains. What else could I do?

I had just moved to a new city and this is how it welcomed me! I knew no-one here. Not even my neighbours. You know how it is when you just get a new job. Handling that is your first priority. Add to it that there was nothing in my kitchen. My grand entry into MUMBAI.

Since there was nothing else to do, I picked up my guitar which I hadn’t played since more than a year now. And it reminded me of all the days gone by. Of the days that I spent in college, sitting at the canteen playing. It was a chick magnet, let me tell you. But all I wanted to do was play for her. All my songs were about her, for her. Suddenly, as I played, I remembered of all the days we spent together.  Of all the silly fights and the immediate sorry calls. I remembered the way she went away just without a goodbye, the email that followed which said that she couldn’t carry on. She said I would get out of my life if I loved her. I loved her. I remembered the why I could never ask. It was all over, just like that. The loud thunder brought me back to now. It was over. I was here. A fresh start. A new beginning. Maybe in this city of dreams, I would find the girl of my dreams.

It was almost 8pm by now and my stomach was growling just as loudly as the thunder outside. It was pitch dark and I didn’t even have a candle. I started playing.

Her mind is tiffany-twisted, she got the Mercedes benz
She got a lot of pretty, pretty boys, that she calls friends
How they dance in the courtyard, sweet summer sweat.
Some dance to remember, some dance to forget

KNOCK KNOCK. Who could that be now? “It is open. Come in,” I said. Came in one of the most beautiful girls I have ever seen. Long hair and candle in her hand. “We saw you were alone and in the dark. Would you care to join us for dinner?” Somehow I didn’t stop playing. I continued..

Last thing I remember, I was
Running for the door
I had to find the passage back
To the place I was before
