Untouchability Still in Rural Areas

Chotto Mind's Blog: Untouchability Still in Rural Areas

The Hindu system of untouchability is still in India's countryside even through there is the fear for law and rising reserchers have seemed to take off some of the devastating rules. These report is based on the National Law School of Bangalore which made a study on Protection of Civil Rights Act on untouchability funded by the Union social justice ministry. These methods were found in Andhara Pradesh, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and West Bengal.

Out of the 648 reserchers, 516 were not allowed in the temples and 151 were not allowed to take out processions of their deities. 581 were allowed drumbeat in marrige. 16% of the non-Dalits questioned about SCs (survey counters) being barred from temple activities. Out of those questioned, 13% refused to answer. With 591 invited for wedding feasts, the improvement was still stopped. Around 29% said they wait for others to finish eating before they can eat while 20% non-SCs said they expected SCs to clean the plates.

Many other rules such as these still exists and not to mention, the same lower class being affected till today. On the link below, you can get the complete results of the survey taken by the reserchers.
